Search Engine Optimization (SEO) FAQ

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) FAQs

Find the answers to some of the most common questions for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) below.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimization, and it is our specialty here at ASTOUNDZ. SEO includes following certain strategies to ensure that your website shows up competitively when someone searches for your target keywords.

What helps with SEO the most?

To do well in SEO, your website needs to be technically optimized and have optimized content. That said, if your website can’t load on mobile, is extremely slow, and doesn’t have much text content, you won’t be able to generate 1st-page search rankings.

What determines the ranking hierarchy for search results, or how does Google choose what to rank first vs. last?

Search engines use proprietary algorithms to find and rank web pages for the specific search query input. While no one knows all the different factors, each search engine does look at website speed, keywords on web pages, link profiles, and other key factors that generally determine the order on search results.

Is SEO a one-time service?

SEO requires an initial technical and content optimization of a website. Once a website is technically sound (fast load time, secure, etc.), SEO shifts to ongoing content and off-page (links, reviews, etc.) optimization. Without ongoing work, website rankings will begin to suffer.

How often do search engine algorithms change?

Search engines make small tweaks every day to how they rank websites, but these typically don’t change how well a site shows up in search results. Every year search engines make 2-3 major algorithmic changes to how they rank web pages, which are typically accompanied by blogs detailing what is/has changed.

How long does it take for SEO to work?

Seeing the return on SEO can take anywhere from 30-60 days to several months depending on how competitive the industry a particular website is in. If a website is extremely niche in what it’s going after, results can be seen quickly, while website’s competing in saturated markets will take longer.

How is the quality of a website’s SEO scored/audited?

Without the use of tools/softwares to scrape and visually display information about a website, it’s extremely difficult to manually score & audit how well a website is optimized for search engines. In addition to using these tools, understanding basic HTML and what areas of a web page’s HTML are important is required to audit the SEO of a website.

How can SEO help my website/why invest in SEO?

Businesses should invest in SEO to generate organic traffic. SEO done correctly will generate traffic overtime without the need to heavily invest in pay-per-click/digital advertising, as organic clicks don’t cost anything. In addition to traffic, having good SEO will place your website at the top of search results which helps with branding/authority for specific topics. SEO is essential when a website is trying to position itself as an industry leader for any particular subject.

Does advertising help with SEO?

Advertising can help funnel traffic and increase general brand awareness – which can factor into how a search engine understands and ranks your website.

Are there different types of SEO campaigns, or is SEO done the same way on every website?

As search engines have evolved to become better at understanding how people search, different platforms have been developed – Map Search, Video Search, Image Search (the list goes on). While the fundamentals of SEO are consistent across most of these areas, to truly excel in specific types of searches you will need to use different SEO strategies.
